 ABOUT THE MULTI-CULTURAL CENTER
MCC MISSION:
The Multi-Cultural Center's mission is clear: "To provide opportunities for all people to learn, celebrate, and share through cultural experiences." This mission is accomplished through programs and services that are open to the community at large. Five primary goals include:
- Offering orientation services to the Sioux Falls community and to the American culture.
- Providing the resources for English language proficiency and life skills education.
- Serving as a Resource Center for the culturally diverse community through assistance with advocacy, housing, health services, adult services, and youth services.
- Developing and supporting programs to address the needs of youth.
- Educating the community regarding diversity.(public presentations available)
History:
Sioux Falls is growing in population due in part to an influx of immigrant and refugee families, as well as the city's reputation as an attractive place to live and raise children. New families moving into the community present challenges, as well as opportunities. Often new arrivals must learn English, as well as new laws, cultural norms and agency policies. Without appropriate orientation, county and city resources become strained and misunderstandings with law enforcement can occur.
